Sabi Sands here we come

When we visited the Sabi Sands game reserve we had a choice...
We could either drive, which would take us about 6-7 hours...or we could fly...
Difficult choice?
We chose the latter
Our airline of choice...
Federal Air, which operates from premises near ORT International Airport,Johannesburg...
I have flown with them before on one of their other routes ( to Madikwe) and they certainly offer a great service...
Free tea, snacks and coffee are available
as well as a well stocked bar for those who might find flying in a small plane daunting...
Looking like ribbon for parcels, these brightly coloured tags are destination specific...
and they ensure that bags to not go on their own holiday...
A cheerful check- in area takes the hassle out of getting your bags out of the way...

For those are coming off connecting flights at ORT, there is a free shuttle service
that will bring you and your luggage to the Federal Air terminal...

Unlike major Airports, there is a small garden and outdoor area for passengers
to wait in rather than sit inside awaiting the boarding call...
In Spring the garden is awash with colour...
All shapes and colours...
This Aloe bush stands at the boarding gate...only in Africa!
Even a small water feature to sooth jangled nerves...
Our plane awaits...and I can say "ours" as we were the only passengers aboard!

Our pilots doing their pre-flight checks...
But we had to wait for 5 other flights to take off before we were given clearance to depart...
Look Ma,no hands...
Luckily we did not require this on our flight...
Runway ahead...our destination is in sight...
The terminal building at the airstrip...our friends Jo and Jim waiting on the deck for us...
Our baggage arrives and we are off to our first camp...
&Beyond's Leadwood Lodge...our first destination
Location: Sabi Sands
